I joined the team from Dunedin where I studied Anatomy and then Physiotherapy. I have always had an interest in coaching; often combining this passion with my competitive interest at the time which has lead me to coach netball, athletics and for the last 6 years, CrossFit.

I discovered CrossFit while I was at university when I saw the Games athletes take on 'Double Grace', although I didn't pluck up the courage to try a class until 2018. Since then I haven't looked back (unless it's a long cardio day and then I question my life decisions) and have gone on to compete at national levels in both CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting.

  • Nick Max

    CROSSFIT COACH

After 10+ years of traditional resistance training, I felt I needed a different challenge. I’ve always loved coaching and helping individuals grow so when the opportunity came up to join the team at Tasman Bay, I knew it was something that I wanted to do both for myself and to help others.

Along side raising my 3 beautiful young boys, playing both senior and premier level Rugby in NZ and coaching Stoke’s Division 2 Rugby team. I understand how important it is to prioritise your own health and wellbeing.

“If it was easy, everyone would do it.” The pain and struggle we experience within the gym isn’t a sign of defeat. It is growth and every single time we show up to put our body through that struggle is a sign that we are that much better than we were yesterday.

I have been working in the fitness industry for the past 7 years and my passion for helping others is only continuing to grow stronger and stronger. Throughout these years, I have found working with children particularly rewarding. I enjoy building the fundamentals of exercise such as balance and coordination from a young age as it gives children a great baseline to continue to build on for their chosen sports later in life.

Not only has group exercise had a hugely positive impact on my life, having experience working one on one as a personal trainer has really allowed me to enjoy the process of building meaningful relationships along the way too. Starting my own business back in 2022 has been one of the best decisions I have made to continue to build these relationships and have the opportunity to work with other businesses alike.
